March beckons, and so do the Academy Awards, which aren’t exactly known for pushing the cultural envelope with controversial nominations, especially in the perenially safe Best Original Song category.
For every win by an Eminem or a “Jai Ho,” there have been dozens by Hollywood soundtrack regulars like Randy Newman, who’s nominated again this year—twice!—for his contributions to “The Princess and the Frog.”
So let’s set the record straight with a little wishful thinking. Here are 10 songs from some of the greatest movies ever made, none of which ever won an Oscar…and most of which never had a chance of being nominated in the first place.
