The late, great Shock G was already a Bay legend back when I was living in Oakland & @UCBerkeley. Once I was flipping mags in a store & a DJ, maybe at KALX, premiered “Same Song” & the whole store started bopping.
He was standing there next to me, smiling.
Or was it Shock? He was a man of multitudes, a proud iconoclast. All smiles, he bounced and was gone. And I never forgot it.
Later, Shock joined the list of influentials I never took the time as a journalist to properly honor. In tears, I’m filled with regret.
Heartbroken. 💔
All of my older brothers are dying. And I’m next.
