Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns transformed comics into graphic novels, and Batman into pop culture’s most popular superhero. But Miller himself, at right playing a perverted priest in the cinematic adaptation of his postmodern pulp noir Sin City, was so transformed by 9/11’s shock and awe that he wanted to draft The Dark Knight to kick Al Qadea’s ass.
But DC Comics said hell no, in a manner of speaking. So now Miller has a new hero called The Fixer, who has been weaponized for payback in Miller’s forthcoming comic Holy Terror. I probed Miller’s comics paranoia for Wired.
