Post Up: Covering The Cure

It’s been a busy weekend working for Wired. But the piece that I was most interested in didn’t get much play, so I figured I’d pimp it here as well. American Laundromat Records has made a career out of covers. Paying tribute to legends like Neil Young, Pixies and more has paid off nicely. Next up is The Cure, who are themselves being covered by members of the Pixies, Throwing Muses, Galaxie 500 and more. Not bad cover bands if you can get them. I interviewed ALR about the practice and whether it’s made their lives perfect.

Covering The Cure: Interview With American Laundromat Records
Wired.com: So, why The Cure?
Joseph Spadaro: We’re just huge fans of the early Cure albums. We hadn’t planned to do a Cure tribute. It was one of those sparks of genius, or perhaps sparks of madness. It all came together so quickly that it seemed like it was meant to happen.

Wired.com: What’s your coolest cover album ever?
Joseph Spadaro: I always loved the Saturday Morning Cartoons compilation. That was a fun record.

Wired.com: Why so many cover albums?
Joseph Spadaro: It’s a way to pay homage to bands you respect or grew up with. Plus, they’re a lot of fun to do. In a way, it’s the ultimate mixtape. MORE @ WIRED
